In-Game Character Information
Name: Dean Winchester
Series:  Supernatural
Age:  26

Personality:

Dean's life has been fairly defined by fulfilling the 'good soldier' role. It meshes well with his instincts - he is, at the core, the big goddamn hero type. However, he's also capable of being so notoriously stubborn, that it's almost a surprise how easily he'd bend to his father's orders. In truth, his desire for his father's acceptance and respect has been one of the driving forces in his life: whereas Sam managed to step away from the path they were born into, if only for a little while, Dean's stuck to it every inch of the way. His entire personality's been crafted to fit the business: he doesn't form attachments quickly, except to the people involved in his line of work, the skills he's mastered and knowledge he's memorized all have to do with ways to most effectively hunt, track, and/or destroy demons and other supernatural baddies, and he has a sense of humor that takes things other would consider horrific lightly.

The most important thing to Dean is family, and he'd really do basically anything for those he puts in that classification.  At the same time, no one in the world can piss him off so much as family, because of how much he has invested in them.  So when Sammy screws up, it bothers Dean to no end: especially because he considers himself so responsible for his brother.  He practically raised Sam, given the way their father was always so invested in his work, and so he often slips into acting as more of a father-figure to his brother than a sibling.

Dean comes across as a real 'man's man', indulging in women, booze, pie, classic rock, cars, and guns, and bashing on anything he considers to be below his tough guy image. It takes a lot to shake him to the point of tears. He's always ready to face things with (maybe too much) bravado, and probably some foul language, just to spice things up.  He's stubborn as hell, and he'll break whatever rules (or faces) he needs to in order to get the job done.

Dean's time in Azkaban did quite a number on him, and forced him to face some of the darker sides of himself.  He was already emotionally stunted before he did time there: but coming out the other side has screwed him up royally.   He has an even more difficult time forging new emotional connections than he did before, and he's never been particularly good at making himself vulnerable by making friends in the first place.  Dean may rock a serious ego on the outside, but in reality, he hates himself, and the things he's been through, and feels a constant need to prove himself.

I've also got a fairly long analysis of Dean's psychology here.

Background:

Dean's actual childhood seemed pretty normal, at least for the first four years of his life.  He had no idea, and neither did his wizard father, John, that his mother Mary was descended from a line of muggles who had fought demons for generations, and so when her past caught up to them, it turned the Winchester family's lives upside down.  Mary was killed by the demon Azazel, and their family home was destroyed: Dean's little brother Sam only survived because their father charged young Dean with getting him out of the house.  Dean would take that order to protect Sam as a pledge to revolve his life around, even as time wore on.

Dean's father was utterly transformed by his wife's death, and delved into learning about the occult and the demonic, and ways to fight them, including the muggle techniques his wife had once used.  His driving goal was vengeance, and it led him to raising both his sons on the road, carting them from town to town, hotel to hotel, school to school, in his '67 Impala.

Dean was taught how to utilize these same techniques and weaponry from a very young age, and John also shared magical techniques with him regarding Defense against the Dark Arts.  Given that John had abandoned his post at the Ministry of Magic when he went on this crusade, he protected both himself and his boys from the eyes of the Ministry for some time given protective charms and anti-scrying magics.  Dean really took to the lifestyle they led, and never wanted anything else for himself, so when the Ministry finally managed to contact them, and invite him to Hogwarts, he didn't want to leave his father or his brother.  However, he was never able to refuse his father's orders, and John demanded he go.

Even though he was pretty pissed off about being rejected by his father (in his eyes), and jealous that Sam still got to spend time hunting with him, Dean was going to make the best of his experience at Hogwarts, and threw himself into getting anything out of the few classes he saw as profitable to his hunting career as possible.  Any classes that he saw as useless in that respect, however, he slacked off in terribly, and he was known to cut classes for a variety of reasons: whether sneaking off with some girl, or trying to sneak into the Forest on some self-styled hunting trip of his own.

Occasionally, John would yank Dean out of school when he required his assistance on a case, and Dean cherished the time he was allowed to spend with his family again, working twice as hard to prove to his father that he'd become more valuable to him in his time at Hogwarts.  Summer and winter breaks were the best times of Dean's life, and while some students dreaded returning to their dull lives, he'd be antsing at the bit every time the weather changed.  It became a little easier for him when Sam also entered school, but the two would fight over how much Sam actually enjoyed it there.  It pissed Dean off to no end that his brother seemed to dread the same breaks that he lived for.

Dean could barely scrape by in school, by the end of his time there, but managed to graduate anyways, and happily returned to the hunting trade with his father.  He'd managed to keep plenty of distance between himself and everyone else at the school who he never thought would comprehend his life outside Hogwart's walls, so he didn't feel as if he were leaving any friend behind.   Sam was 2 years away from graduating, when there was a huge family blowout between him and John, in which Sam revealed that he had no interest in being part of the hunting lifestyle anymore, and that he felt his path belonged with finishing school and concentrating on his studies there.  He refused to leave school to participate in a hunt, and John stopped speaking with him.  When Sam went to stay with a friend the next summer, Dean broke off contact with him completely as well, dropping the few attempts at communication he'd been making before.  He felt completely betrayed.

Though he missed Sam, Dean saw this as his opportunity to prove to his father that he deserved to be his favorite, because he'd never gotten the kind of attention that Sam ever got.  However, things remained pretty much the same, until John abruptly turned up missing on a hunting expedition.  Dean, unsure of where to turn, showed up at Hogwarts.  Sam was days from graduation, but Dean demanded he come with him - just for one weekend - to find him.

The weekend ended with them right where they'd started, and Dean had no choice but to fulfill his promise and return Sam to Hogwarts.  However, a horrible surprise was waiting for his brother: his girlfriend, Jessica, killed in the same way their mother had been years ago, by Dark Magic.   Dean barely managed to save his brother from the flames.  Rather than stay and try to deal with the authorities and questions, they left that same night, spending the next two years traveling together around the U.S. again.  Between attempting to find John, and to hunt down the demon who'd killed Jessica and their mother, they had a lot of leads to follow, and solved a large number of supernatural cases on the way, while making some progress towards mending their own fractured relationship.

When they finally caught up to John, they learned that he was keeping his distance from them on purpose, and it took a lot to convince him to let them help him in the fight against Azazel.  The defeat of the demon didn't come without a price though: before dying, several other demons were freed from hell and set loose in the muggle world, and Sam and Dean tasked themselves with stopping them.  John took off again, and it was down to the two of them to right what they had done.

Fighting demons was tricky business however, given their ability to possess human hosts, and when a powerful demon took over a Minister of Magic, it got down to the line, and Sam had to destroy the host in order to defeat the demon before he could get away, or kill others.   A particularly powerful demon named Lilith, who had been working to stop the boys' crusade,  made certain that the murder was traced back to them.  Desperate that his little brother not be hauled off to Azkaban, Dean went off on his own to claim responsibility for the crime and alleviate Sam of any of the consequences that might result.

This meant, of course, that Dean himself was dragged off to the horrible prison, where he was subjected to the horrible presence of the Dementors, which drove him to a state of extreme internal isolation.  The Minister who Sam had killed had twisted friends outside Azkaban's walls, who paid off a guard named Alastair to make certain that Dean's time in prison was extra excruciating.  The guard tormented Dean physically, occasionally doing as much as to disfigure him, and then use spells to heal him back up again, only to repeat the procedure the next day.  The guard, half-crazed himself from the proximity of Dementors, began a twisted mind game with Dean wherein he would offer to discontinue this abuse if Dean would begin doing it to other prisoners, for Alastair's amusement.  It took nine months of this cycle of torment for Dean to give in and agree to this offer, and he hated himself for doing it, but tormenting the other prisoners - who he had to convince himself were all terrible people who deserved to be incarcerated even if he did not - allowed him to work out his resentment towards Alastair.  He assumed he would be trapped in the prison for life, and thought it would be better to be feared by the inmates than victimized by them.

No one was more surprised than Dean when he was abruptly cleared of all charges and released a year from his admittance.  Someone had apparently found a clause in wizarding law wherein Dean's sentence was rendered illegal, but no one was able to tell Dean who it had been, and he was wary of what exactly his 'savior' had in mind for him.   Reuniting with Sam, Dean was horrified to learn that he'd fallen under the influence of a demon named Ruby, and had been drinking unicorn blood in order to strengthen his psychic abilities.  This led to a huge fight between the two of them, and Dean ordered Sam to cut it off.

Meanwhile, Dean teamed up with a family friend named Bobby in order to investigate who had gotten him out of Azkaban.  His sources led him to an encounter with agents of the Ministry itself - apparently someone in high levels of wizard government had plans for Dean : they wanted him to work for them directly.  Dean refused, never willing to swear allegiance to anyone who wasn't family, but they continued to make threats about getting him thrown right back in where he came from, and he began to crack.  Sam began having premonitions about something going down at Hogwarts, and the Ministry agents who had been contacting Dean ordered him to go with his brother under cover as teachers there to keep an eye on things.  Dean pitched the idea to Sam, keeping the reality of why he was doing it from his brother, and they struck up jobs there.  Dean took the position of teaching Defense against the Dark Arts, for which he was well qualified, but eventually tensions between him and Sam reached a breaking point when he discovered his brother was still using unicorn blood on occasion.  He left, swearing not to return, and basically saying screw you to the Ministry who wanted him to remain there as their agent.

However, after a few months of hunting out on his own, these same agents told him that a prophecy had been brought to their attention that involved his brother, and would put him in serious danger.  They allowed Dean to see the prophecy, though he knew it was possible they were simply yanking his chain in order to get him back at Hogwarts, and had conjured up a fake. In it,  Sam was no longer himself, but was possessed by a dark wizard, and fighting at Ultimecia's side to take over the world.  Despite his misgivings, Dean couldn't risk something happening to Sam, so he agreed to go back under -his- terms, and told them they shouldn't expect him to do any of their dirty business.  His previous job having been taken by Sam in order for him to be able to return to it sometime, Dean could have taken the position back - however, he's still wary of dealing directly with Sam, and instead agreed to come in as a phys ed instructor.  He intends on keeping an eye on Sam from a distance, though that's not likely to... remain the case for long.  What Dean -doesn't- know is that these "Ministry agents" aren't exactly working for the ministry, but rather an ancient powerful wizard named Michael... who has plans of his own for Dean, and isn't about to let him off the hook so quickly.

Blood: Half-blood

Preferred House:  Gryffindor
Why you think they belong in this house?  Dean's practically a Gryffindor poster boy.  His personality is geared around stupidly reckless bravery, and except where his father's orders were concerned, Dean's never had a particular penchant for rules.   He's basically a big ol' hero, and at heart, he's a really good selfless person, despite however rough or heartless he may appear at times.

Staff Position:  Physical Education, 6-7
Why you think they fit this position? When Dean left Hogwarts last, he was teaching Defense against the Dark Arts, which is really his preferred position.  However, he's fine with letting Sam take the reins on the upper level class now so long as he can keep an eye on his brother and his behavior. Given that a lot of his motivation for returning to Hogwarts is to make certain that Sam is safe, it makes sense that he'd agree to a position teaching a class that he doesn't have to ... prepare a lot for, in his eyes.  Dean's an incredibly physically fit person, and knows a lot about sports and the importance of staying in shape to being a badass wizard.  Even in canon, he was able to pose as a gym teacher with surprising ease.

The one kink in his plan is that Dean is terrified of flying, and won't touch a broom, but luckily he can stand on the ground and shout orders with the best of them.  If any students so much as mention that their teacher doesn't ever actually demonstrate flying techniques for them, that'll be twenty laps for them.  8|
If Professor would you want them to be Head of House?  Nope.

[Locked to Staff]

You heard rumors that there were freaking zombies potentially hanging around and nobody thought to call me?

Can’t leave this place for five minutes.

[See Dean. See Dean pretending that Ultimecia’s attack is his main reason for coming back to Hogwarts. See Dean lying his face off.]

Anyways, hopefully Sammy hasn’t screwed up too much as the new DADA teach. If he’s been slacking off, somebody tell me, and I’ll set him straight.

[Unlocked]

Yo boys and girls. This is Professor Winchester - the cooler, better looking one - and I’ll be teaching Phys Ed to the upper class kids this time around. You need me, I’m in my office.

Oh, and bring your A game to class. I don’t need to deal with any slackers on my first day. I’m lookin’ at you, Moroboshi.

Dean was pissed off.

And so he’d just gotten in the Impala, and taken off, with no direction in mind. Driving helped take the edge off. Or focus it at least.

He was trying not to replay the images in his mind, trying to drown them out with a worn out AC/DC tape, and a foot glued to the accelerator. With the wind rushing in through his rolled down windows, and miles and miles of broken yellow lines.

Wasn’t working, this time.

He hated those punks, in their fancy ass Ministry robes, and their shady habit of just arriving in his damn hotel room whenever they decided it was time for a visit. He’d like to know just how they were tracking him, when he was rocking several types of anti-scrying protection charms. But damned if he was going to give them the satisfaction of asking about it.

He’d thought he’d been doing a damn good job of cutting them out of his life, keeping five steps ahead of them, but there they were, and bringing more bad news than ever before.

The Prophecy.

Dean had always hated those freaking things. He hated anyone telling him what was meant to be. What was unavoidable. He didn’t believe in situations you couldn’t change. Not if you tried hard enough. Not if you fought hard enough.

But what royally sucked the most about this was that in order to fight this Prophecy - in order to save Sammy - he’d have to stop fighting those Ministry mooks, and fall in line again. Report back to Hogwarts like a good little agent.

Screw that. Screw them.

His foot cranked the Impala angrily up to eighty, as if he could outrace the reality of where he was really heading: towards the resolution that no matter what, he was going back there now. No two ways around it.

With a growl, his foot switched to the brakes, and he swung the car around in a wide arc.

“Gonna miss you baby,” he murmured.
