Departing the carnival, after saying their goodbyes, Dean and Sam try to look on ahead to their next job.  Which may have something to do with an angel nicknamed "Cupid"....

Dean's world gets turned upside down when Sam breaks the news that their dad is back.  Dean demands that he take him to see him, immediately.

Castiel halts him before he can reach his father, attempting to talk Dean out of going to see him and warning him that this could be a trap.  Dean refuses to listen, and Castiel loses his temper with him.   Then Sam tries to drill the same message into his head, and Dean flips out and yells at him, refusing to really hear anything he says.   He reunites with his Dad, finding out that he's back from the last time they saw him, and doesn't remember how he got here - just that he's been back for a week.

In Which: 

    +  Bobby, (who also talked to John), tries to urge Dean to be cautious about trusting that this is really his father.
    +  Other-Claire offers her support, telling him that she trusts his instincts, which means a lot to Dean.  (and later leads to a fight between her and Sam).
    + Tess and Dean talk siblings, destiny, and how she came to be the ruthless businesswoman she is today.
    + Jordan inquires about Dean's father.
    + Anna offers comfort, and let's Dean know she believes him too.
    + Castiel and Dean fight over whether they can trust John or not, enough to keep him around.  It gets pretty heated, and finally Dean admits he assumes that he and Sam and their Dad are going to travel together now.  Castiel agrees to this only if he can be present whenever Dean is with John.   Cas convinces Dean to talk to Sam, and try to sort through their differences.  
    + So Dean talks to Sam about it.  And it goes absolutely horribly.  They get into a huge fight, and say some terrible things to each other, and get to the verge of parting ways again, but Dean can't handle the thought and pushes everything aside to try to make some kind of compromise for the moment that will allow him to keep them both.   He agrees to let Cas take John somewhere and keep him there until he can find out more information, while the boys go off to find Cupid.  Dean suggests they don't talk about this until they get back, and Sam evinces concern that Dean won't be able to focus on this mission.
    +  Claire calls after Sam prompts her to, to try to talk some sense into him, but he goes immediately on the defensive, and admits that despite his compromise with Sam, he knows this is far from over.  He tells Claire that he doesn't want to put his Dad through what happened to him emotionally when he came back and Bobby and Sam tried to kill him. 
    + Tessa (the reaper) shows up, and Dean wonders if she had something to do with this.
    + Sam no. 2 speculates about what's going on, with Dean.
    + Madison asks Dean what's going on.
