Who: Dean and Sylar ([livejournal.com profile] intuitivelyapt )
What:  Dean and Sylar have a lot of manly issues to work out in a manly matter.  So they kick the shit out of each other.  It's how real men resolve things.
When:  Thursday night.  Immediately following this.
Where:  NYC, an alley behind a bar.
Verse:  Brave New World

If Sylar didn't have a clear idea of how pissed off Dean was from the way he banged the back door of the bar open hard enough to send it crashing against the wall, then he might have gotten a hint when he ignored Sylar's verbal jab and marched in silence down the steps.

He ran a hand over his face, taking a few paces down the dingy alley way.  Something moved inside a dumpster, and he heard a cat rrowing.  In the distance, there was the muted noise of traffic, and street bustle.  Everything else in the world just moving along, all hunky dory, even if a couple days ago there were giant rocks of fire that killed people, destroyed property, wrecked cars.   The city didn't seem to give a shit.  It was like New York was daring the Apocalypse to try and touch it.

Dean had no doubt that if they didn't act soon enough, the Apocalypse was the one who'd win that game of chicken.

The city seemed just as oblivious now, to the fact that this guy who'd killed several innocent girls off the streets was just walking free.  That he was rooming with the demon who'd screwed over him and Sam royally.

New York didn't care.

But he sure as hell did.

He turned back to face Sylar, fixing him with a baleful glare.

"Give me one good reason I shouldn't kick your ass all the way back to the Company myself, right now."

[Log] Do you want the truth or something beautiful?  Dean's last stop before going to say yes to Michael turns out to be Brooke's doorstep.  He takes this one last opportunity to tell her the truth about who he is and what he does, and she doesn't take it very well at all that he was lying to her all this time.  She practically runs him out after initially begging him to stay when he tells her this is the end and he's not coming back.

+ Sam tries in vain to argue Dean out of this.
+ Molly tells Dean people were worried & asks why he left.  And that she thinks he's cute.

+ Dean and Other-Sam argue about Dean's lost faith, and Sam accuses him of taking the easy way out.
+ Madi tries to explain how Dean's running away and hurting his family, but he won't listen.
+ Claire chews Dean's ear off about what he did and how he's breaking their hearts, and his cold replies just make it worse.  He finally tells her that she has to grow up and accept that this isn't going to end well.
+ Elle calls to check on him, and when he tells her he's going to follow through and admits he didn't want to have to say goodbye, she's hurt, and their conversation ends.
+ Sylar's just so relieved that Dean isn't a unicorn.   Dean explains his reasons for wanting to say yes, and Sylar is the only one to support his decision and trust his judgment.  They talk about what happened with Other-Claire, and then Sylar lets Dean know he intends to kick his ass.  Dean challenges him to fight man-to-man without powers, and they make a ... manly fight-date.  Or something.
+ Other-Claire calls and tells Dean about her plentiful feelings over what happened and how he left.  He finds out Claire knows he kissed Other-Claire, but Sam doesn't.  She reminds Dean of their list of things to do after the Apocalypse and he humors her that he isn't going to go through with this.
+ Dean has a... conversation with his Impala.  Seriously.  About his hard life, and the car talks about basically committing suicide if he leaves.  It also agrees to run over the Devil for the lulz for Dean.

Who: Dean and Brooke Davis ([livejournal.com profile] ihadmittenson )
What:  Dean says his final good-bye.  And takes his last opportunity to tell Brooke the truth.
When:  Wednesday.  Following 5x17, 99 Problems
Where:  Tree Hill, NC; Brooke's place
Note:  Banner made by [livejournal.com profile] secretlytodream
Verse:  Brave New World

The familiar stretches of highway actually looked different to him this time.  It took him a couple states to figure out exactly why.  It wasn't the space between one goodbye and the next.

It was actually seven goodbyes.

There were the ones he couldn't actually say: everyone back in New York, and Cas, and above all these, Sam.  The only goodbye he could afford his brother was the sound of the car driving off.  It was better that way.  There'd have been a scene otherwise, and a fight, and that's not how he wanted Sam to remember their last moments together.  He'd rather it just be normal one minute, and over the next.  No chick flick scenes.  No explanations that he might not be able to put into words.  No guilt leveled on top of what was already there.

No having to look Sam in the eyes and admit what he was going to do.

There was the goodbye he'd said on Sunday, after spending a day tracking Lisa down.  It was a farewell to a dream that he'd held on to in the secret chambers of his heart: the picket fence.

The family

As he cruised down the same expressways and routes he'd been traveling for as long as he could remember, he'd realized that was the third goodbye.   This was his home, or as close as it got.  The open road, and the highways and byways of the continental United States, that he knew like the back of his hand.  Like they were a well-worn paper route.  There was comfort in them: in the lines as they flashed by, in the rest stops that were all of one mold.  As he passed along them this time, an equally worn smile touched the edge of his lips, though there was no joy underlying it.

The Impala purred along the roads towards his second to last destination, and his smile flickered out a bit thinking of that fourth goodbye.  There'd be no Paradise for his baby, after all.  He doubted Michael was going to decide he wanted a slick ride to take along.  Who knew where she'd end up.  His hand all but caressed the steering wheel as he tried to pretend that maybe she'd be waiting for him again in heaven.

The fifth goodbye was the easy one.  It was saying goodbye to the job, and he was almost sickened by how easy it was for him to do.  He might have given Sam a lot of shit for being able to talk about settling down and dropping the business after this was 'over' but in truth, he was more than ready to be done.  To let someone else take up the mantle.   Honestly, he was just plain tired.

The sixth was where he was heading now.  He concentrated on that one, seeing as how he wasn't sure he was ready to face the seventh yet.

The last goodbye would be to everything that made him him, after all.

The Impala pulled up in front of Brooke's and he set her in park and sat there for a moment, staring out the window and trying to decide whether this was really what he wanted to do.  But he knew it was.  He wasn't going to leave this world without giving her the truth.

He owed her that much.

And beyond that, even more important, really: he'd never have another chance to let her see the real him.  And he wanted her to know.  Know some of it, at least.

He still couldn't put into words why, but he'd had lots of time to think about it on the drive.  To think about how Lisa and Ben had been a promise for something that might have been his, in an ideal world.  A link back to his past even.

Brooke, on the other hand, had been his anchor to reality for a couple months now - a link back to the real world, and even to a potential future in it.

He should have known better, really, to even let himself entertain that idea.

The door slammed behind him, and he stuck both hands in his pockets as he walked slowly up the pathway to the front door.  After a moment, he rapped on it three times.

After helping save Elle, Ruby's getting thanked by everyone but Dean, who figures she wants something.

-----------April Fool's Day
-------------

Sylar figures out that it was Dean who put Nair in his shampoo.

When Percy 'breaks up with' Other-Claire as a lame April's Fool's joke, Dean threatens him.  And so does everyone else.

Dean and Future!Peter discuss pranking Sylar.  Peter fears they may have gone an eeeensy bit too far.

When Dean talks to Other-Claire about what Percy did, it ends up finally coming out that he knows she has feelings for him, and she confesses the extent of them, more or less.
It all turns into a waffle-conversation where Bon Jovi becomes a metaphor for... the possibility of Claire cheating on Percy with Dean, and he gets uncomfortable when she says no one would ever have to know, and changes the subject.  She finally goes to buy them some drinks, and he turns down her offer to find him a girl for the night.

    +  Electrocutesy Elle seconds that.
+  Brooke is just amazed by Dean's capacity to fail at dealing with this baby, and tries to get him to call the police.
+  Buffy explains about those dolls that cry to Dean, and then gets offended when he suggests he was more worried about someone breaking in his car than about the baby.
+  Molly offers her two cents.
+  Future!Peter suggests that it might have been Sylar's handiwork, since he's on a rampage over being pranked.
+  Claire wonders who would trust Dean with a baby (har har har), but eventually goes to look at it with him and discovers its just a doll.  She is... so disappointed in your life, Dean.
+   Sylar comes to gloat about his prank, and Dean acts unfazed.

[Log] Easter Sunday:  Dean and Sam head over to Angela Petrelli's for the most awkward Easter dinner of all time.  Dean screws up and brings rabbit and duck to eat for Claire, instead of for pets, like she'd wanted.  He then proceeds to have the worst time ever, only having his distance from these people emotionally reinforced, and having a hard time watching Sam obviously fitting into a new family that he doesn't really feel is his.

His "heaven"?

Was leavin' us behind.

In which:

+ Percy insists on knowing what Dean is talking about, so Dean tells him about going to heaven and back.  The brief version.
+ Our resident spoiler, Cassandra, predicts that Dean's going to make a big mistake, and that he wants everyone to turn on him; wants a reason to say yes.  He tries to get her to shut up, unsuccessfully.
+ Without revealing that he died, or went to heaven, Dean explains to Brooke about how Sam's favorite memories were of leaving him, and how much that hurt.  She tries to talk him into understanding.  He asks her about how she's been and she tells him about her crazy night of drinking.  He misunderstands for a second and thinks she might have been banging some other guy not that he cares at all.  She convinces him they have to play 'I never' some day.
+ Dean tells Sylar about what happened and where they went.  Sylar gets all emo about how he's never seen emo in all the times he's died.  He has a hard life.  He tells Dean all about how he met Morgan Freeman God, but Dean is pretty sure it's a diffferent God.  Sylar suggests they just replace theirs with that one, and no one will know the difference.  It doesn't really work that way.
+ Electrocutesy!Elle commiserates with Dean about family, and she gets him to tell her he was in heaven.  She finds out the angels are dicks.  And offers Dean drinks anytime.
+ Dean talks to Spike about what he learned from Buffy.  Spike isn't jealous at all, no.  Spike finds out that Sam is Dean's brother, and that Dean's been topside and bottomside, and they talk about Spike's possible fate in hell.
+ Dean checks in with Sparky!Elle and advises her to just push through all the negative emotions after being possessed.
+  Tess and Dean argue religion and the nature of God.  It's... less mature than it sounds.
+ Dean and Castiel talk about this bombshell and assure each other they still have each other's backs.  They talk about Cas becoming mortal.
+ Blair is there to snark away, so her and Dean finally actually talk.  He convinces her to buy him a drink and give her a ride in her limo.  It's... surreal like that.  :3
+ Demon!Dean just loves to... make things worse for Dean by rubbing in that maybe Sam wanted to get away from him.  They argue about demon!Dean hanging around and who can protect Sam better.  Demon!Dean learns that the angels send Dean right back when he dies.
+ Snarky!Elle tells Dean she heard from Cas about God, and he tells her he and Sam went to heaven.  She offers for him to come over and he refuses, which hurts her feelings, because it's been happening more and more often.  He agrees to come over the next night.
+ Michael appears again to offer comfort to Dean, but he's too angry and broken to accept it.  He tells Michael he has to deal with this himself.
+ Dean meets another dead person - Emily, who tries to talk to him about Sam.  But he's worried she's a zombie.
+ Future!Peter learns about Heaven, and Dean explains how he shared one with Sam, and that's how he saw his.  Peter hopes he doesn't share one with Nathan, since he'll never be staying there very long.  Dean explains the whole vessels thing to him, and Future!Peter immediately wants to help, and tries to think of a way to fight Lucifer.  Dean however, is obviously not very optimistic about that, and tells him about what God said.
+ Karen lightens things up by talking about how her heaven has cheese fries.  And that Dean can share them.
+ Ruby 'welcomes' Dean back, and sneakily tries to learn about heaven from him, but he's not going to tell her.
+ Dean explains to Other-Claire about heaven, and what happened.  She expresses that she wishes she could have been the vessel in his place.  She asks him what heaven was like.  He gives her the quick version and talks about Zachariah.  This leads into the log down below directly.

[Log]  Dean and (Other)Claire continue discussing Heaven, alone in his motel room.  When she professes the extent of how much she wants to help them, and her feelings for him again, out of a mixture of desperation and appreciation, Dean kisses her.  It's a last chance bid to actually feel something, as if he can absorb all the feelings she has for him.  Despite the fact that she's dating Percy, Claire can't deny her feelings for Dean - that she's in love with him - and she responds.  Eventually, however, she stops him, telling him she can't have sex with him, because of Percy, and because she respects herself too much to do so.  He realizes sex wasn't really what he wanted anyways; he just... had no idea how to get from her what he needed.  They discuss their lose-lose situation, and he all but begs her to stay, claiming to need her - hoping that he can still forge some connection to ground him.  Something to find faith in, after losing all his faith in God's love.  She agrees to spend the night with him, without having sex, but they remain rather intimately entangled while he tells her the full story of heaven, and talks about his emotional state.

WEDNESDAY:

Dean assures Buffy that she's probably going back to Heaven when she dies.

Sorry, Nate.  Dean will never be done harping on this 'Chuck's a rapist' thing.

Oh, Dean's just thrilled that Bela's back.

Bela > [livejournal.com profile] insilksheets

[Log]  After spending most of the day drinking, Dean stands up Elle for their date, only to show up at her place at 2am.  She's less than pleased, and horrified when she sees what kind of state he's in emotionally.  He really hurts her when he starts talking about how it might not be so bad if everyone died and went to heaven and she tells him how disappointed she is in the changes in him, and tells him to leave.

THURSDAY:

Brooke surprises Dean when she shows up in NYC, and ... tells him that's why she came.  She takes him lingerie shopping with her.

Molly's freaked after watching the Exorcist and Dean fails at comforting her, when he tells her he's seen worse.  He backpedals by assuring her that Sam & him will always kill all her monsters.

Future!Peter demands everyone take a vacation, but Dean doesn't have time for it.  He also notices something is really wrong, but Dean clams up about what.

What else'll she be right about?

In which:

+ Dean tells Claire he got in a fight with Elle.  She tells him that Sam has a right to be pissed at him, and he thinks she's talking about what happening with Other-Claire.  They continue having two separate conversations for awhile, until Dean realizes she's talking about him throwing out the amulet.  He explains his side of things to her, and why he's pissed, and she tries to convince him to talk things out with Sam.  She reassures him she loves him.
+ Other-Claire and Dean talk on the phone, about what happened with Elle, and finally, what happened between them.  Claire tells them that she told Percy what happened between them.  He tells her he knows what he did was wrong but he doesn't regret it.  Dean tries desperately to get Claire to not take all the blame for this, and she tells him she can't see him until she falls out of love with him.  It hurts a lot more than he expects but he understands.  He refuses, however, to oblige her by saying hurtful things that will make her get over him faster.  They say their goodbyes.
+ Sylar tries to get Dean to talk about his problems, but he's sure as hell not telling Sylar about this.
+ Sparky!Elle agrees - it's better not knowing the future.
+ Dean tells Electrocutesy!Elle about his fight with other Elle, and what he said to Molly.
+ Cassandra dumps more prophecy in Dean's lap, and he shrugs it off.  Again.  Because he doesn't want to hear about how he's running away from things, or especially not about how he's just another deadbeat dad for doing it.  Thanks, Cassandra.  :C  Dean tries to get her to just... talk about thing that aren't in the future, and she's never had to do that before.
+  Molly tries to cheer Dean up by playing him AC/DC songs on the guitar.
+ Sam forces Dean to talk about what they saw in Heaven, and they get in a fight about it.  Sam tries to get Dean to see reason, but Dean refuses, and his hopelessness leaks through.
+ Hedwig taunts Dean with a copy of Taut Blonde Virgins in his bird-mail, and he ends up spilling out all kinds of stuff about his hard life to the bird, until she gets annoyed with him and makes him stop bitching.
+ Dean talks to Tessa about the afterlife.
+ Dean and Cas talk about Cassandra... and what happened with Claire.

Dean had been pacing the length of the motel room restlessly as they spoke about Heaven, but he halted when Claire suggested they grab a beer instead of even bothering trying to respond to his statement that God had told them to give up.  He was immensely grateful that she didn't seem about to try to push him into reinterpreting the message into something it obviously wasn't: there was just no way to spin Joshua's message into something positive.  It'd been a slap in the face on every damn level.

Yesterday had just been one of those after another.

"Yeah, I grabbed some yesterday."  Before I got shot in the chest, he thought to himself with a grimace, as he headed towards the mini-fridge, and pulled out two bottles.  He held one out to her and cracked the lid off his own, taking a seat on the edge of the bed and finding a spot on the wall to stare at for a moment with furrowed brow.

"Anyway, it was... a helluva day," he finally said, following a moment where neither of them spoke.  After another pause, he chuckled.  "Ok, maybe bad choice of words."
